I believe that grains are not good for cats and so decided to eliminate dry food from my cat’s diet. In reading the labels of canned cat foods I noticed that most have wheat gluten in them, a substance that is not only from grain but a major allergen for many people and pets. It’s not a healthy or wholesome substance. After a bit of research I found that with Fancy Feast, if you stick to the “classic” or original recipes (generally of a pate consistency) there is no wheat gluten. Any recipe that has an extra descriptive such as grilled, flaked, shredded, etc. has the gluten so I’m thinking it must be the gravy that requires wheat gluten. Anyway, my cat has two issues – she is overweight and has a tendency for diarrhea. I’m on a mission now to figure out how to deal with both. I think seafood is the main cause of her diarrhea episodes and I’m betting grains are contributing to her weight problem. Mainly I’m letting people know by writing this review that this particular collection of Fancy Feast does not have wheat gluten in it. And even though it does have animal by-products at least they are not right up at the top of the list of ingredients. I’ve gone through trying all the expensive specialty foods only to see them summarily rejected one after another and I know my cat likes Fancy Feast so I feel like we have found a happy medium.

My two cats are so spoiled I can’t tell you what they get away with. They have expensive dry cat food available 24/7, one of their demands. One of them gets dried tuna flakes twice a day and other gets dried salmon twice a day, takes care of their omega 3′s. They are not overweight at all, in fact they are both older and very healthy. This Fancy Feast is what they require me to open one can of and split it between them before I go to bed at night for their late night “fancy feast”. This I do as I change all the water bowls for the last time for the day (night) the life of a domestic zoo keeper is an endless show of love. I really like that I can buy these 24 count cases from Amazon in so many selections that groceries in my area don’t stock and at great prices and FREE SHIPPING What’s not to love about Amazon.com? My last order I tried this new assortment. This is another one that the stuff is all mashed up. Wow!! Strong odor. Normally I leave the dishes on their perches overnight and pick them up in the morning. But I went into the kitchen in the middle of the night and the smell of this food was too much and I had to get rid of it. The ‘sliced assortment’ doesn’t smell that’s the one in the light purple box. Fish I could understand smelling, but poultry? that is kind of scary. Wish they could tone down the smell of this a little. Remember the larger the chop the less the smell. If you see the word ‘gravy’ that is a good indication of less smell also. I would not use this stuff as a main stay for any cat. I think it would give them the runs after awhile if that was all they had to eat. Good food means fewer Vet bills less disease for your pets. They are no different than we are when it comes to health.

My cat LOVES this cat food. It may be a bit expensive, but we believe it’s worth it to make our Googie happy! If you really care for your cat, try this. It will make it hard for them to go back to the less tasty stuff later, so get used to the idea of buying it regularly. Oh yeah, and there’s free shipping too!!!
